In this new collaboration between California State University San Marcos School of Nursing and Huế Medical School/School of Nursing, CHEER aims at providing a pathway for deserving first year students from poor families who live in mountainous and remote areas to actualize their dreams of becoming nurses. The four-year scholarship will enable students to pay for the college fee. CHEER awarded14 scholarships in 2014. We plan to present 28 scholarships for the 2015 school year.

The new Nursing program and the establishment of the School of Nursing is the latest development of Huế Medical School to elevate the quality of nursing care in Việt Nam. After the formal four years of study students will earn a Nursing degree, an equivalent of a Registered Nurse degree in the United States.

California State University San Marcos School of Nursing and Huế Medical University School of Nursing have established an exchange program for several years. Every year students in the Nursing program at CSUSM join the Vietnamese nursing students for their clinical work at several hospitals in Huế City and clinics in rural and remote areas such as Nam Đông. The experience enriches students at both universities.
